Garnet: February Birthstone
Garnet is most well known for its beautiful blood red colouration. However the gemstone is a species composed of several related minerals with a number of chemical compositions and shades. Its name ‘garnet’, originates from the Latin ‘granatum’, which means dark red, and it was said to resemble pomegranate seeds when in its granular form.
Garnet is one of the oldest gemstones used for jewellery and adornment, having been popular for thousands of years.
